You're lucky you've had that sort of honesty. It took me a long time to drag out any sort of real answers from my oncs and even then they continued to tapdance around my direct questions. I've basically had to read between the lines and draw my own conclusions.

Being in touch with you has helped. And this latest recurrence - much sooner than expected - has helped me rearrange my life in a way that feels more honest to me.

I also hate that damn "hit by a bus" platitude. I don't share their confusion; I know the difference quite well. While I have never had a physically life-threatening disease, so there is certainly no real comparison and I do not wish to imply one except in this narrow sense, I have at various points over the past decade been, for shorter or longer periods of time, incapacitated enough to need a great deal of help with daily tasks. I recognize so much of what you write here.

I will save this post to show to others, if I should need that degree of assistance again, and especially to remember for myself whenever I find myself in the helper's role.Aase Langehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08767631353393043308noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12342956.post-40788827837715321312009-04-13T16:47:00.000-04:002009-04-13T16:47:00.000-04:00Ooo, this fits right in with tomorrow's post on ca...Ooo, this fits right in with tomorrow's post on casa az. I recently stumbled while out walking my 2 dogs on leash (mini schnauzer and mini daschund) and stepped on my poor doxie's foot, causing it to swell which needed $450 of vet care! It says so much of what I've been trying to say to others since I was diagnosed in May.

The thing about honesty is that, even if it scares the hell out of you, at least you know where you stand and you can start dealing with the reality of all that.

I've learned to bite my tongue when well-meaning people tell me to keep thinking positive and that I have to FIGHT this cancer ...
